Club Universitario del Nordeste faces loss of facilities

The Club Universitario del Nordeste (Cune) is facing a potential loss of its facilities following a decision by the Universidad Nacional del Nordeste (Unne) to rescind its land use agreement (comodato).

The conflict stems from a request by university unions, Adiune and Codiune, to have the university take full control of the premises to allow students, faculty, and staff free access to the sports facilities. The club's president, Daniel Fogar, noted that the decision was unexpected. While the current agreement was set for an automatic 10-year renewal in 2019 and is technically valid until 2029, the contract contains a clause allowing the university to terminate it with a justified cause.

Following a formal notification on August 31, the club has been given a six-month period to vacate the premises. The Cune leadership has stated that the club will not close and is currently evaluating legal, administrative, and institutional alternatives to ensure its continuity. The club emphasizes its long history and the significant private investments made in its infrastructure, including basketball courts and maintenance.
