Clube da Esquina memorial vandalized in Belo Horizonte

The memorial for the Clube da Esquina musical movement in Belo Horizonte's Santa Tereza neighborhood was vandalized with red paint on the morning of Friday, October 23. Security footage captured a man near the site around 4:50 a.m., though the exact moment of the attack was not recorded.

Local residents and artists have raised suspicions of political motivation, noting the incident occurred two days before a presidential election runoff. One resident reported hearing a shout of “Fora, Lula” near the site. The Civil Police of Minas Gerais are investigating the authorship and circumstances of the vandalism.

In response to the attack, local musicians organized an artistic gathering on Saturday to celebrate the movement's legacy. Additionally, Federal Deputy Duda Salabert announced a commitment to allocate R$ 500,000 in parliamentary amendments for the preservation of the site and the creation of a statue honoring the late musician Lô Borges.
