Cláudio Castro faces 54% disapproval as Rio de Janeiro poll shows low approval for interim governor Ricardo Couto
A Genial/Quaest poll released on 27 July surveyed 1,200 Rio de Janeiro voters between 21‑25 July. The sample has a ±3‑point margin of error and 95 % confidence. It was registered with the Tribunal Superior Eleitoral (TSE) under number RJ‑02671/2026 (also BR‑07670/2026).
The poll found that 54 % of respondents disapprove of ex‑governor Cláudio Castro’s administration, while 28 % approve and 18 % gave no opinion. In an overall evaluation, 40 % rate Castro’s government as negative, 32 % as regular and 18 % as positive.
Interim governor Ricardo Couto receives 34 % approval, 25 % disapproval and 41 % non‑response. Among those who answered, 25 % view his performance positively, 30 % as regular and 17 % as negative.
The poll was conducted about four months after Castro resigned on 23 March and the TSE declared him ineligible for the 2022 elections due to abuse of political and economic power. The results highlight a low level of public confidence in both the former governor and the acting administration ahead of the upcoming state elections.
