Cluj International Airport adopts electric equipment as Norwegian cuts route

Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport is advancing its green energy transition by acquiring three electric ground support vehicles. These new pieces of equipment are designed to reduce carbon emissions during airport operations and are compatible with various aircraft types, ranging from ATR models to Boeing 787s. The fleet includes water and sanitation vehicles with a maximum service height of 3 meters, as well as an ambulift capable of reaching 5.5 meters to assist passengers with reduced mobility.

The new electric equipment features an autonomy of up to 8 hours. This acquisition is part of a broader modernization effort to increase operational efficiency through sustainable solutions.

In related aviation news, Norwegian Air Shuttle is adjusting its operations at Cluj International Airport. After launching two direct routes to Scandinavia in June 2026, the airline is discontinuing the Cluj–Copenhagen connection as of August 2026. However, the airline will maintain its Cluj–Oslo Gardermoen route, which remains in the airport's current flight schedule.
