Cluj-Napoca expands electric bus fleet and service routes

Cluj-Napoca is expanding its electric public transport fleet with the introduction of 40 new articulated electric buses. The investment, totaling 34 million euros, was funded through European and national projects, including the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and the North-West Regional Program 2021–2027.

The new 18-meter vehicles can carry up to 140 passengers and are equipped with modern amenities such as air conditioning, energy recovery during braking, video surveillance, and accessibility features for persons with reduced mobility. Currently, approximately 70% of the city's fleet is electric.

Additionally, electric bus services will be introduced on the Cluj-Napoca–Florești route starting next week. This follows the completion of road modernization works that will expand the road from four to six lanes and provide 3.5 kilometers of dedicated lanes for public transport. Mayor Emil Boc stated that these improvements aim to enhance transport quality and reduce pollution in the area.
