Cluj-Napoca inaugurates new neurosurgery center
A new Neurosurgery and Cerebrovascular Pathology Center has been inaugurated at the Cluj County Emergency Clinical Hospital in Cluj-Napoca. The facility, funded through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and national funds, represents a significant investment of over 230 million lei. The center features 105 beds, including 26 intensive care beds, and is equipped with six modern operating rooms and advanced imaging technology such as MRI and CT scanners.
During the inauguration, interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan emphasized that quality healthcare requires continuous investment and equipment. He praised the Cluj medical school and the work of Professor Ioan Ștefan Florian. The project was completed ahead of the August 31 deadline for PNRR-funded initiatives.
The opening has drawn political criticism from former Health Minister Alexandru Rogobete (PSD), who accused the government of ignoring healthcare staffing shortages and funding gaps despite the new infrastructure. Rogobete argued that a new hospital cannot function effectively without adequate personnel and medical supplies.
