Cluj-Napoca railway reopening urged for 2027
The Pro Infrastructură Association is calling on the Romanian Ministry of Transport and the Romanian State Railways (CFR) to restart train services between Cluj-Napoca and Gilău (Kissebes) by early 2027. The association notes that approximately 80 percent of modernization work on the first 63 kilometers of the historic line has been completed.
While the full line toward Oradea remains under construction—specifically due to slower progress between Bucea (Királyhágó) and Vadu Crișului (Rév)—the association argues that a shuttle service using diesel multiple units could be implemented on the completed section. Currently, passengers must rely on road transport due to the ongoing modernization works on this rail line, which has a history spanning over 150 years.
