Regional infrastructure and digital projects advance in Romania and Moldova

Various regional infrastructure and administrative projects are underway across Romania and Moldova. In Romania, Cluj County has approved the ‘CLUJ SMART COUNTY’ project, a digital ecosystem for 81 municipalities aimed at reducing bureaucracy through cloud-based services and AI assistance. In Cluj-Napoca, the Piezișă street modernization, a 2.2 million euro project, has been completed, transforming the area into a pedestrian-focused ‘shared space’. Other Romanian local developments include road rehabilitations in Pitești and Târgoviște, water network expansions in Petrila and Piscu, and a major expansion project for the Turda Salt Mine. Additionally, the Rovinari dam is undergoing rehabilitation to mitigate flood risks.

In Moldova, the government has approved the establishment of the ‘Moldova Proiect’ office (officially the Public Institution Office for the Implementation of National Strategic Infrastructure Projects). This centralized body will manage major strategic projects, such as the construction of regional hospitals in Bălți and Cahul, to improve fund absorption and project efficiency. Furthermore, the Moldovan Agency for Roads (AND) has launched tenders for road modernization on several national routes, including segments near Chișinău and the Ukrainian border, funded by the World Bank to improve road safety.
