CMA CGM Air Cargo joins German airline association BARIG
CMA CGM Air Cargo has joined the Board of Airline Representatives in Germany (BARIG), an international association representing approximately 120 passenger and cargo airlines operating in Germany.
Founded in 2021 as part of the French logistics group CMA CGM, the airline operates a fleet of Boeing 777F and Airbus A330-200F aircraft. Based at Paris-Charles de Gaulle and with additional aircraft in the United States, the company manages international freight routes connecting Europe, North America, and Asia.
BARIG Chairman Michael Hoppe noted that while German airports saw a 1.6 percent increase in air cargo volume in 2025 to approximately 4.86 million metric tons, the industry faces significant challenges. The association highlighted high state-imposed location costs, including air traffic taxes, increased security screening fees, and rising air traffic control and infrastructure charges, which impact the competitiveness of German freight hubs such as Frankfurt, Leipzig/Halle, and Cologne/Bonn.
