CMA CGM expands US logistics with $1.4 billion FedEx Supply Chain buyout

French shipping group CMA CGM has signed a deal to acquire FedEx’s Supply Chain division for roughly $1.4 billion (about €1.22 billion). The transaction, expected to close later this year, will triple CMA CGM’s logistics footprint in North America, adding around 20,000 employees, more than 240 locations and 150 warehouses. FedEx will focus on high‑value verticals such as healthcare, automotive, aerospace and data centres. Rodolphe Saadé, CEO of CMA CGM, said the acquisition strengthens integrated supply‑chain solutions, while FedEx CEO Raj Subramaniam highlighted a sharpened focus on core services.

In a separate development, CMA CGM has christened the CMA CGM Notre Dame, the world’s largest liquefied natural‑gas‑powered container ship at 24,212 TEU. Measuring 400 m in length and equipped with AI‑driven navigation and energy‑efficiency technologies, the vessel joins a planned fleet of ten similar ships aimed at decarbonising maritime transport. It began its inaugural commercial voyage from Shanghai and will operate on the French Asia Line, rotating through ports including Ningbo, Singapore, Le Havre, Rotterdam, Hamburg and Tangier Med.
