CMA Media cancels BFM local channel sale and announces restructuring

CMA Media, the media branch of CMA CGM led by Rodolphe Saadé, has abandoned its plan to sell its network of local BFM television channels. The decision follows a period of seeking buyers, which concluded without a convincing offer that secured the future of the activity or the staff.

Instead of a sale, the group will implement a restructuring plan to pivot the remaining seven channels toward economic and business news. This new model will leverage expertise from BFM Business and La Tribune to focus on local economies and regional transformations. The surviving stations include BFM Lyon, Marseille Provence, Grand Lille, Grand Littoral, Toulon Var, Nice Côte d’Azur, and Alsace.

As part of this reorganization, two channels will cease operations: BFM Normandie and BFM DICI (covering the South Alps and Haute-Provence). The restructuring is expected to involve significant workforce reductions, with some reports suggesting staff levels at remaining stations could drop from 150 to approximately 80 employees. Labor unions have already expressed opposition to the plan, calling for strikes in response to the potential job losses.
