Santa Fe and Mexican municipalities implement local contingency and public service plans

In Santa Fe, Argentina, municipal and provincial authorities have met with community organizations to coordinate a contingency plan for the El Niño phenomenon. Expected to last until autumn 2027, the phenomenon may cause significant rainfall and rising levels in the Paraná and Salado rivers. Officials are focusing on drainage maintenance, river monitoring, and evacuation logistics to mitigate risks.

In Mexico, various municipal initiatives are addressing local needs. In Xalapa, Veracruz, Mayor Daniela Griego Ceballos reported that the ‘Día del Pueblo’ program has addressed over 1,800 citizen requests, primarily concerning public works, street paving, and water/drainage services. The CMAS Xalapa also presented its 2026 work plan, including special policies for water service access for residents unable to prove property ownership.

Other regional activities include a fundraising event in San Pedro Cholula to equip a rehabilitation center, legislative dialogues in Saltillo, Coahuila, and urban planning discussions in Lanús, Argentina.
