Cần Thơ City seeks 1.5 trillion VND to tackle riverbank landslides

Over the past six months, Cần Thơ City has recorded 232 riverbank and coastal landslide points, causing houses to collapse, roads to be severed, and significant disruption to daily life. The damage from recent incidents is estimated at about 2.48 billion VND, with individual households reporting losses up to 1 billion VND.

The city government has proposed allocating more than 1.513 trillion VND to stabilize and repair nearly 200 of the most critical sites. Projects will include reinforcing riverbanks, repairing concrete embankments, and restoring affected transportation routes. Residents such as Lê Văn Tài, whose home and nearby infrastructure were swept away by a sudden riverbank collapse, illustrate the urgent need for these measures.
