CNA Noto and Noto Prison announce partnership for inmate reintegration
Representatives from CNA Noto, the Noto Prison, and the U.L.E.P.E. of Siracusa met to discuss an upcoming memorandum of understanding aimed at connecting the artisanal business sector with the prison system.
The partnership seeks to utilize the professional skills inmates have acquired in sectors such as carpentry, metallurgy, tailoring, and printing to prevent skill loss after release. The initiative also aims to inform entrepreneurs about the Smuraglia Law, which provides significant tax breaks for hiring vulnerable individuals, including inmates or those under alternative penal measures. According to the discussions, such employment can drastically reduce recidivism rates, which drop to 4% for those who find work compared to a 75% rate for the general population.
