CNAMGS: 120,000 beneficiaries improperly registered in Gabon
The Court of Auditors has identified approximately 120,000 individuals improperly registered in the file of economically weak Gabonese (GEF) managed by the National Health Insurance and Social Guarantee Fund (CNAMGS). Out of nearly one million people listed, about 900,000 are actively receiving coverage.
The Court clarified that these 120,000 entries do not necessarily constitute fraud, but rather indicate individuals whose circumstances may no longer meet the current eligibility criteria. The discrepancy highlights a need for regular data updates to ensure social resources reach the most vulnerable populations.
To address this, the Court recommended a complete cleaning of the national GEF database to improve targeting and reliability. Additionally, the audit noted management flaws regarding medical evacuations abroad, citing a lack of traceability in expenses and invoices. The Court suggested allowing CNAMGS to contract directly with foreign hospitals to improve oversight.
