CNBB holds regional pastoral meetings across Brazil

The National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB) is conducting regional meetings to define future evangelization strategies and address social realities across different states.

In Espírito Santo, the Regional Leste 3 is preparing for the 13th Meeting of the Base Ecclesial Communities (CEBs). This event serves as a precursor to the 16th Interecclesial Meeting of the CEBs, scheduled to take place in the Diocese of Cachoeiro de Itapemirim between July 20 and 24, 2027. The movement aims to revisit the history of the CEBs and address contemporary social, environmental, and economic challenges facing impoverished families.

In Santa Catarina, the Regional Sul 4 held its 58th Regional Pastoral Assembly in the Diocese of Tubarão. The assembly included a social and ecclesial situational analysis presented by Professor Carlos Eduardo Sell of the Federal University of Santa Catarina. The analysis highlighted Santa Catarina’s high per capita income and life expectancy, while also noting concerns regarding low-income populations, rising housing costs, and religious shifts, including a decline in the Catholic majority and the growth of evangelical and non-religious segments.
