CNBB issues election guidance and solidarity to Colombia

The National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB) has issued two distinct communications addressing different social and humanitarian contexts.

Regarding the 2026 elections in Brazil, the CNBB published a message to the Brazilian people emphasizing its commitment to democracy and the common good. The Church stated it does not endorse specific candidates or political parties, instead calling for responsible citizenship, ethical politics, and the fight against corruption, inequality, and the spread of fake news.

Separately, the CNBB sent a message of solidarity to the Church and people of Colombia following a devastating earthquake on August 10, 2026. The earthquake, centered in San José del Palmar in the Chocó region, caused loss of life, injuries, and significant property damage. The Brazilian bishops expressed their condolences to the Archbishop of Cartagena and the Colombian people, praying for those affected by the disaster.
