CNBB loses access to official X account

The National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB) has lost access to its official account on the social media platform X. The institution reported that the profile's institutional image has disappeared and the associated email address appears to have been changed.

The CNBB stated it has contacted the platform's support and submitted documentation to prove ownership and regain control. While it is not yet confirmed if the loss of access resulted from a cyberattack or other causes, the incident follows recent public statements by Brazilian Catholic leaders regarding the upcoming elections and national sovereignty.

Recently, bishops from the Northern region, including Roraima and Amazonas, issued a letter urging voters to choose candidates committed to environmental preservation and 'Integral Ecology,' specifically highlighting the protection of the Amazon and its peoples. Additionally, during a September 7th mass, Archbishop Dom Orlando Brandes spoke in defense of national sovereignty. The CNBB has advised followers to use its official website, Instagram, and Facebook for verified information.
