CNBB Regional Sul 1 launches Cultural Heritage Commission in São Paulo
The first meeting of the Regional Cultural Heritage Commission of the Catholic Church was held on 29 July at the headquarters of the CNBB Regional Sul 1 in São Paulo. The gathering brought together representatives of the Regional Sul 1 and the national conference, including Dom Carlos Silva, OFMCap, auxiliary bishop of São Paulo and secretary of the Regional, and Pe. Luis Fernando da Silva, executive secretary of the Regional. The commission, tasked with preserving, valuing and disseminating the Church’s ecclesiastical cultural assets in the state, outlined initial priorities such as conducting inventories of cultural assets, strengthening links with dioceses and archdioceses, cooperating with heritage bodies like CONDEPHAAT and IPHAN, and promoting training initiatives for parishes. Pe. Luciano Roberto, cultural adviser of the Episcopal Commission for Culture and Education, led discussions on the Church’s mission in heritage preservation and set the groundwork for the commission’s work in the coming years.
