CNES manages flight safety protocols for Ariane 6 launches

The Flight Safety Division at the European Spaceport in French Guiana manages critical security protocols during rocket launches to protect technical personnel and local populations. According to Léonard Buchaillot, a flight safety engineer at the French National Centre for Space Studies (CNES), the process involves real-time meteorological assessment and ballistic monitoring.

During a launch, specialists track the vehicle's position millisecond by millisecond, comparing its actual trajectory against theoretical models. If a launcher, such as the Ariane 6, deviates from its predefined flight corridor, an automatic neutralization protocol is triggered. This command activates the vehicle's self-destruction systems to prevent uncontrolled flight paths or risks to ground areas.
