CNews faces petition for removal from French TNT frequencies
A petition submitted to the French National Assembly is rapidly gaining momentum, approaching 500,000 signatures, calling for the removal of the CNews television channel from the TNT (digital terrestrial television) network.
The petition, filed by Lucas Massoni, seeks to end the channel's use of public broadcasting frequencies. Supporters of the movement cite concerns regarding biased programming, lack of pluralism, and repeated regulatory failures. Since 2019, CNews has reportedly received 27 formal warnings and over 600,000 euros in fines for issues including discriminatory remarks and incitement to hatred.
The surge in signatures follows a period of intense political debate in France, particularly after a racist attack in Trappes and La Verrière in late October. While some political figures have linked media discourse to social tensions, no direct responsibility has been established between the channel and the incident. The movement highlights the debate over whether TNT frequencies should be treated as a public resource subject to strict oversight rather than an indefinite right.
