CNG technology shifts aim to improve vehicle boot space

Automakers such as Tata, Maruti, and Hyundai are focusing on new technologies to address the limited boot space in CNG vehicles. Traditional CNG cars often require large cylinders to be placed in the trunk, significantly reducing storage capacity. To solve this, companies are developing dual-cylinder and underbody CNG technologies. These methods involve using two smaller tanks or placing them beneath the vehicle floor to preserve luggage space and improve practicality for families.

Despite recent price increases in major cities like Delhi and Mumbai, CNG remains a preferred fuel choice due to its lower running costs compared to petrol and diesel. In Delhi, CNG is priced at approximately 87 rupees per kilogram, while in Mumbai, it is 88 rupees. Although prices have nearly doubled over the last five to six years due to international natural gas costs and distribution expenses, the fuel continues to offer significant economic advantages for vehicle owners.
