CNI opposes voting on working hour reductions during election period

The National Confederation of Industry (CNI) has expressed opposition to voting on proposals to reduce working hours during the upcoming Senate legislative session scheduled for late August and early September. CNI President Ricardo Alban argued that the current electoral period lacks the neutrality required for such significant decisions, suggesting that discussions should be postponed until after the elections to ensure a balanced debate.

The industrial sector maintains that collective bargaining must remain the primary mechanism for adjusting work schedules and scales. The CNI contends that rigid, uniform rules fail to account for the diverse production processes across different industries. They argue that direct negotiations between employer and worker unions allow for the flexibility necessary to maintain competitiveness and manage operational costs effectively.
