Dominican Republic CNM opens applications for Supreme Court vacancies
The National Council of the Magistracy (CNM) in the Dominican Republic has opened a call for candidates to fill four vacancies in the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ). These vacancies follow the resignations of Luis Henry Molina, Manuel Ramón Herrera Carbuccia, Nancy Salcedo, and María Gerinelda Garabito Ramírez.
Interested parties and institutions may submit third-party proposals until September 10, while direct applicants have until September 15 to formalize their candidacies. The process also accounts for any additional positions that may become available following the ongoing performance evaluations of seven current SCJ magistrates.
Justice Minister Antoliano Peralta has defended the CNM's technical capacity to conduct these evaluations, noting that while some members may lack specialized legal training, they are supported by expert technical teams and advisors. This comes amid a period of judicial tension caused by the refusal of several magistrates to undergo the mandatory legal evaluations.
