CNMC requires company alias registration by September 15

The National Commission on Markets and Competition (CNMC) has requested that companies register their messaging aliases before September 15 to prevent service interruptions. Under Ministerial Order TDF/149/2025, electronic communication operators will be required to block SMS, MMS, and RCS messages that use unregistered aliases or are sent by unregistered operators.

This measure is part of the government’s Anti-Fraud Plan, aimed at enhancing electronic communication security and preventing identity theft and fraud involving known brands. The requirement applies to any public or private entity using alphanumeric identifiers—such as company names, commercial brands, or web domains—instead of phone numbers for notifications, appointment reminders, or commercial communications.

Affected sectors include banking, retail, insurance, transportation, and public administrations. While entities that fail to register will be unable to use their brand names as aliases, they may continue to send messages without these identifiers. New registrations can be processed at any time after the September 15 deadline.
