CNN clarifies that military mail-in ballots are exempt from Trump executive order
CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer issued a clarification following an on-air exchange regarding President Donald Trump’s executive order on mail-in voting. During an interview with Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger on ‘The Situation Room’, a discussion about legal challenges to the administration’s directives led to the impression that U.S. military and overseas voters would be impacted by the new Postal Service rules.
Blitzer clarified on Monday that military and overseas ballots are actually exempt from the Postal Service rules implemented by the March executive order. The original discussion involved a lawsuit filed by Virginia and other states seeking to block the order, which aims to tighten security and verify citizenship in federal elections. Governor Spanberger had argued during the segment that the administration’s actions could discourage voters and interfere with secure voting methods.
