CNN threatens legal action against Trump administration over media access
CNN has threatened to pursue further legal action against the Trump administration following repeated restrictions on its journalists traveling on Air Force One. Despite a preliminary court order reinstating White House access for several media outlets, CNN and Politico were reportedly barred from participating in recent presidential trips, including a campaign swing to Mississippi.
CNN's attorney, Theodore Boutrous Jr., has demanded written confirmation from the Department of Justice that restrictions on the network's participation in presidential coverage will end. Boutrous accused the administration of retaliatory and discriminatory actions based on the content of the network's news coverage, labeling such exclusions unlawful.
The dispute centers on the media pool system, where news organizations rotate responsibilities to provide shared footage and reporting for the entire press corps. CNN noted that being excluded from its assigned rotation not only hinders its own coverage but also disrupts the distribution of visual materials to other domestic and international media outlets.
