CNOG celebrates 90 years amid livestock export challenges
The National Confederation of Livestock Organizations (CNOG) celebrated its 90th anniversary during the National Livestock Convention held at the Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila. The event brought together approximately 1,500 producers and officials to recognize contributions to the livestock sector and discuss industry challenges.
CNOG President Homero García de la Llata highlighted the organization's scale, noting it represents 700,000 members and thousands of local and regional associations. During the ceremony, four former heads of the Ministry of Agriculture were recognized for their contributions to livestock development.
Industry leaders addressed significant economic hurdles, specifically the impact of sanitary issues such as the screwworm. These issues have led to border restrictions that have prevented the export of approximately 1.7 million head of cattle, resulting in an estimated overproduction of 500,000 tons. Coahuila Governor Manolo Jiménez Salinas emphasized the need for federal support to reopen border crossings in Acuña and Piedras Negras to restore international trade.
