CNOOC CEO sees potential for US-China energy cooperation
CNOOC CEO Huang Yongzhang has identified significant potential for energy cooperation between China and the United States. Speaking following the company's half-year results, Huang noted that the U.S. is currently the world's largest producer and exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG), while China remains the largest importer, suggesting substantial room for future collaboration.
Although energy trade between the two nations has been largely frozen due to tariffs imposed during previous trade tensions, Huang stated that CNOOC would consider future investments alongside U.S. partners to create shareholder value. While U.S. officials have previously discussed the possibility of China increasing LNG purchases, no specific deals have been finalized.
