Cànoves i Samalús installs new biomass heating system

The municipality of Cànoves i Samalús is progressing with the installation of a new biomass boiler and heat network designed to serve the L'Estelada school and the La Petita Estelada nursery. The project, which began in May, is expected to be fully operational by this autumn, ahead of the winter season.

The system will primarily utilize forest chips, a 100% renewable fuel sourced from local forest management and cleaning. This initiative aims to reduce the municipality's carbon footprint while contributing to forest fire prevention. An existing diesel boiler will be maintained as a backup system for maintenance or emergencies.

The total cost of the project is €212,960.00. Most of the works are being financed through a subsidy of €185,155.34 from the Diputació de Barcelona, resulting in minimal impact on the municipal budget.
