CNSS discusses new high-cost medication fund in Dominican Republic
The National Council of Social Security (CNSS) is engaged in ongoing dialogues with various stakeholders of the Dominican Social Security System (SDSS) to evaluate the creation of a High-Cost Medication Fund (Fomac).
The proposal aims to establish a specialized, capitalizable fund subject to supervision to strengthen the financing and access to high-cost treatments through Health Risk Administrators (ARS) and Family Health Insurance (SFS). By utilizing joint purchasing mechanisms and economies of scale, the fund seeks to create a sustainable financial mechanism for treating diseases that impose a high economic impact on both the healthcare system and families.
Aura Celeste Fernández Rodríguez, General Manager of the CNSS, stated that the initiative is part of efforts to strengthen social health protection and ensure more timely access to treatments. The proposal has undergone technical and actuarial analysis to reach a consensus among the different sectors of the SDSS.
