CNTE Marches in Mexico City to Mark 10th Anniversary of Nochixtlán

On Friday, 19 June 2026, the Coordinadora Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educación (CNTE) organized a march in Mexico City. Around 1,000 participants started at the Ángel de la Independencia and proceeded to the Secretaría de Gobernación in the Juárez district, commemorating the 10‑year anniversary of the 2016 Nochixtlán events in Oaxaca. Demonstrators demanded justice for the victims, reiterated their union and social demands, and called for continued support of teachers’ rights.

The march coincided with several other citizen‑led gatherings across the city, including a cannabis‑rights information drive, a poetry reading protest against cultural‑policy decisions, a housing‑reform petition drive, an environmental‑awareness campaign on animal consumption, and a solidarity assembly for Cuba. These actions were scheduled at various locations such as Avenida Chapultepec, Casa del Poeta, and Glorieta de Insurgentes, reflecting a broader agenda of social and civil‑rights issues.

Authorities were warned that the protests could affect traffic in key zones of the capital, prompting security and traffic management measures for the day.
