PT demands Morena repeat internal surveys for 2027 elections

The political alliance between Morena and the Labor Party (PT) is facing significant tension ahead of the 2027 elections. Reginaldo Sandoval Flores, the PT's parliamentary coordinator, has demanded that Morena repeat its internal surveys for 17 governorships using scientific and independent methodologies. The PT argues that current processes are controlled by Morena and that the ruling party is shifting its ideology toward the center-right.

Specific disputes have emerged in several states. In Michoacán, the PT is backing Senator Raúl Morón Orozco and has warned that if Morena does not conduct a new survey by November, the PT may nominate Morón as its own candidate. Similar demands for new surveys have been made for Colima, Zacatecas, and Nuevo León, where the PT is supporting Jesús Elizondo.

In response to these tensions, Morena leader Ariadna Montiel Reyes has denied any imminent rupture with the PT or the Green Party (PVEM), stating that dialogue remains open and that the parties share common electoral and legislative goals. Meanwhile, in Michoacán, Morón has announced plans to organize grassroots consultations to determine the future direction of his political movement.
