Italy expands green energy infrastructure with new hydrogen hubs

Italy is seeing significant advancements in the green energy sector through new industrial developments in Trentino and the Marche region.

In Trentino, UFI Hydrogen has inaugurated a new industrial and technological hub in Serravalle di Ala. The 14,000 square meter facility focuses on the production of Membrane Electrode Assemblies (MEA), which are critical components for electrolyzers and fuel cells. The company plans to invest 50 million euros by 2029, aiming to create approximately 100 new jobs and serve industries such as heavy transport, robotics, and data centers.

In the Marche region, the Opificio Idrogeno Marche (OIM) has opened in Falconara. Located on a former industrial site, this 60 million euro hub is dedicated to the production, storage, and distribution of green hydrogen. The facility utilizes 4 MW of electrolyzers powered by renewable energy, including 7.8 MW of dedicated photovoltaic systems. The project, a partnership between Renco and Pollarini Group, aims to produce over 600 tons of hydrogen annually to support heavy mobility and public transport.

Additionally, other regional energy initiatives include the launch of the SSEC Storage & Solar Expo Conference in Vicenza and the inauguration of a major photovoltaic plant by Magis in Trissino.
