Co-op convenience store plans submitted for St Minver and Looe, Cornwall

Developers have submitted planning applications to convert existing buildings into Co‑op convenience stores in two Cornwall towns. In St Minver, Barkwell Properties Ltd proposes to remodel a former café and retail unit on Rock Road, adding a flat‑roofed extension, new shop front, and removing a residential flat above the premises. The revised design incorporates a natural slate roof and reduces building height to address council concerns about visual impact and noise.

In Looe, a separate proposal seeks permission for a 407 m² store with 21 parking spaces on the north‑edge of the town near Kimlers Way. The plan includes a pedestrian link, landscaping, and a retail space well below the 2 500 m² threshold that would trigger a formal impact assessment. Cornwall Council will review both applications after a period of public consultation, weighing the need for local retail provision against potential effects on existing businesses and the built environment.
