Coach Vangelis Alexandris criticizes Greek basketball officiating

Basketball coach Vangelis Alexandris has called for urgent solutions to the ongoing crisis in Greek basketball, stating that officiating issues have damaged the sport and damaged Greece's reputation at the European level.

Speaking to ERT, Alexandris characterized the current system not as "rotten" but as "directed," alleging that certain teams have received preferential treatment from referees in recent years without facing adequate sanctions. He noted a lack of oversight and disciplinary action regarding controversial officiating.

Alexandris also addressed recent legal developments, noting that recent arrests were likely not random and that relevant prosecutors will evaluate the evidence. Furthermore, he expressed outrage regarding allegations that matches may have been manipulated to secure university admission points for students, criticizing parents who allow such systems to influence their children.
