Coachella approves $48.7M contract for Avenue 50 Bridge

The Coachella City Council has approved a $48,709,821.10 construction contract awarded to Riverside Construction Company Inc. for the development of the Avenue 50 Bridge.

The infrastructure project is designed to replace the current Avenue 50 low-water crossing over the Coachella Valley Stormwater Channel. The new bridge aims to eliminate regular flooding in the area and address deteriorating asphalt conditions at the existing crossing.

Funding for the project will be sourced through the Highway Bridge Program, the Coachella Valley Association of Governments, Measure A, Senate Bill 1 funds, and local water funds, meaning no allocations from the city’s general fund are required. The total project cost, including construction management fees and a 10% contingency, is approximately $61.5 million. The project is currently estimated to be roughly $7 million under the city’s original budget estimate.
