Coachella Valley Lakers name Alex Cerda as head coach

The Coachella Valley Lakers have named Alex Cerda as the 12th head coach in franchise history. Cerda succeeds Zach Guthrie, who has joined the Los Angeles Lakers coaching staff.

Cerda has been with the organization for three seasons, previously serving as an assistant coach. His professional background includes roles as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator for the Texas Legends, work in the Los Angeles Clippers video department, and player development coaching with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.

General Manager Nick Mazzella cited Cerda’s ability to connect with players and his understanding of development philosophy as key factors in his selection. The team is scheduled to begin its 2026-27 NBA G League season on November 6 against the Salt Lake City Stars at Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert.
