Coaches clash over injury to Stephen F. Austin player

A dispute has emerged between college football coaches following a significant injury to Stephen F. Austin tight end Gerard Edimo during a game against Prairie View A&M. Edimo, a team captain, suffered a leg injury during a tackle involving Prairie View A&M defensive back Eric Zachery.

Stephen F. Austin head coach Colby Carthel characterized the play as the “second dirtiest, most unsportsmanlike play” he has seen in his 27-year coaching career, suggesting the injury might end Edimo’s football career.

Prairie View A&M head coach Tremaine Jackson defended Zachery, stating that the program will not allow anyone to attack the player’s character. Jackson noted that while the injury is unfortunate, Carthel had not contacted him directly regarding the incident. Jackson emphasized that Zachery is a “good person, great student and one of the best people in our program.”
