Coahuila authorities investigate Labor Party members for crime links

The Coahuila State Attorney General's Office (FGEC) is investigating potential links between members of the Labor Party (PT) and organized crime groups. According to Attorney General Federico Fernández Montañez, the inquiries involve both federal and local legislators within the party.

One specific line of investigation concerns the arrest of workers in the Carboniferous Region who were allegedly involved in 'halconeo' (surveillance) activities for the Northeast Cartel. These individuals were reportedly linked to a company associated with local deputy Antonio Flores Guerra.

Fernández Montañez also addressed criticisms from Ricardo Mejía Berdeja, a former federal security official and current legislator. The Attorney General accused Mejía Berdeja of politicizing Coahuila's security situation for political gain and criticized his past performance in federal security roles.
