Coahuila authorities issue alerts for heavy rainfall and flooding risks

Authorities in northern Coahuila, Mexico, have issued alerts due to forecasts of heavy rainfall that could result in accumulations of between four and seven inches. The weather pattern, driven by moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and a cold front, poses risks of flash flooding, rising stream levels, electrical activity, hail, and strong winds.

In Piedras Negras, municipal officials have activated monitoring through Civil Protection. Local authorities have conducted desilting work in streams and drainage points to mitigate flooding. Residents are warned to avoid traveling through low-lying areas or crossing natural watercourses, particularly on streets like Periodistas. Authorities have noted that ignoring road closure barriers may result in sanctions.

The risk level for excessive rain is currently rated at level 3 out of 4 for northern Coahuila and southern Texas. Officials recommend that the population identify nearby temporary shelters and avoid unnecessary travel during the peak periods of expected precipitation.
