Coahuila Governor Jiménez pushes for AHMSA restart to restore jobs
Governor Manolo Jiménez Salinas said the top priority for the state and federal governments is to reactivate Altos Hornos de México (AHMSA) so the steel plant can resume operations and recover thousands of jobs in Monclova and the central region of Coahuila. He highlighted ongoing legal and financial discussions aimed at finding a solution that will allow the plant to reopen quickly and boost the region’s economy.
Jiménez also reaffirmed the state’s openness to coordinate with the Federal Prosecutor’s Office on any matters related to the Alonso Ancira case, emphasizing that while the investigation proceeds, the focus remains on economic revitalisation and ensuring workers receive their rights. He cited a Banamex study showing Monclova ranked among the five Mexican regions with the highest purchasing power, underscoring the importance of restoring the plant’s production for local families and businesses.
