Coahuila Governor Manolo Jiménez backs search accord amid families' frustration

Governor Manolo Jiménez Salinas convened a plenary session in Saltillo with a range of families’ groups of missing persons, state prosecutors and security officials. The meeting reaffirmed the state’s “model of dialogue” and resulted in a new cooperation agreement between the State Search Commission, the Attorney General’s Office and the Public Security Secretariat to deploy municipal police in coordinated search operations.

Families’ organisations, including FUUNDEC‑M, Familias Unidas and Juntos en Acción, expressed anger that despite years of meetings no missing relatives have been located. They criticised the lack of concrete results, the absence of a harmonised operational plan from the State Search Office, and the continuation of “pain‑administration” through endless tables. The groups demanded an end to simulated compliance, the implementation of international recommendations, the appointment of a head for the Regional Human Identification Centre, a dedicated budget, stronger human resources and wider dissemination of assistance programmes. They note that more than 3,600 people are listed as missing in the national registry.
