Coahuila health officials boost tick‑prevention brigades amid heatwave

Health authorities in the Región Centro of Coahuila have intensified preventive actions as high temperatures drive a surge in tick populations, raising the risk of rickettsial disease. Jurisdicción Sanitaria 04, led by Faustino Aguilar Arocha and acting on instructions from Governor Manolo Jiménez Salinas and the state health secretary, has deployed constant monitoring brigades across municipalities such as Monclova and Castaños.

The state government has supplied insecticides and other supplies to support the effort and has trained doctors, private‑sector clinicians and pharmacy staff to recognise rickettsia symptoms and apply appropriate treatment. To date, no suspected rickettsia cases have been reported in the region. Officials are urging residents to keep pets vaccinated and de‑parasitised, maintain clean yards, and seek veterinary care if animals show signs of illness.
