Coahuila leads Mexico in fine bovine cattle proportion

Coahuila holds the highest proportion of fine or specialized bovine cattle in Mexico, according to the 2022 Agricultural Census from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI). The state reports that 48.6% of its cattle herd consists of fine or specialized breeds.

Nationally, fine or specialized breeds account for 14% of the bovine population. Other categories include crossbreeds at 46%, common or creole cattle at 21.7%, and unspecified types at 18.3%. Following Coahuila, Aguascalientes ranks second with 42.4%, and Querétaro follows with 29.8%.

In contrast to Coahuila, states like Yucatán, Baja California Sur, and San Luis Potosí show higher proportions of crossbred cattle. The INEGI data reflects the composition of livestock herds and the presence of animals with specific productive characteristics across Mexican states.
