Coahuila security: Police officer and two civilians killed in armed clash
An armed confrontation in the municipality of Candela, Coahuila, resulted in the death of state police officer Mauro Flores Rodríguez and two armed civilians. The clash occurred early Tuesday morning near the border with Nuevo León when police units patrolling a mountainous area attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle, which then opened fire.
State Attorney General Federico Fernández Montañez confirmed that the two deceased civilians were from the State of Mexico and Nuevo León. Authorities are currently searching for a third individual who may have escaped the scene. During the incident, police seized two long weapons, a vehicle, and spike strips.
In response to the violence, security forces including the Mexican Army, National Guard, and Navy have reinforced surveillance in the border regions of Coahuila, including areas connecting to Nuevo León, Chihuahua, and Tamaulipas.
Separately, Coahuila Governor Manolo Jiménez Salinas met with Federal Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch in Mexico City to reaffirm coordination between state and federal levels. The meeting focused on maintaining security models in cities like Saltillo and Piedras Negras and addressing organized crime activities such as extortion and fuel theft.
