Coahuila prepares for local congressional election on June 7

The National Electoral Institute (INE) in Coahuila has called almost 2.5 million registered voters to the polls for the state’s local congressional election on Sunday, 7 June. The election will fill 25 seats – 16 by relative majority and nine by proportional representation – across 4,275 polling stations.

The institute reports that preparation activities are complete: 5,947 electoral observers have been accredited, a historic high for the state, and 29,925 citizens have been trained and appointed as poll‑table officials. System tests for the Electronic Voting Information System, the Internet Voting System and the Preliminary Results Program were successfully carried out. Early voting saw 164 of 180 registered participants cast ballots, with one voter using the online option, while 1,447 incarcerated voters exercised their right out of 1,640 eligible.

INE officials say the logistical, technological and human resources are in place to ensure a transparent and lawful voting process, urging Coahuilenses to participate to strengthen democracy.
