PRI‑UDC sweeps all 16 districts in Coahuila state legislative election

On June 7 2026, Coahuila held its sole statewide election of the year to renew the 25‑member state Congress. Voters chose 16 deputies by majority vote in individual districts and nine by proportional representation. Preliminary results from the PREP, with about 94 % of actas processed, showed the PRI‑UDC alliance winning every one of the 16 district seats, giving the coalition a qualified majority in the chamber. The alliance’s leader, national PRI president Alejandro Moreno, hailed the outcome, declaring that “the families of Coahuila decided with freedom and intelligence” and that “we have barred the narcopolitics of Morena.”

The victory consolidates the position of Governor Manolo Jiménez Salinas, who was re‑elected earlier, and is presented by PRI officials as a model of security‑focused governance. Turnout estimates range from 45 % to just over 50 % of the roughly 2.5 million registered voters.

Morena and its partner PT have called the election “fraudulent,” accusing the PRI of systematic vote‑buying using QR‑code schemes that allegedly coerced voters to photograph the codes after casting ballots. They have filed complaints with the state electoral institute, the specialized electoral crime prosecutor, and the financial intelligence unit. The PRI, however, has rejected the allegations, and the official count continues.
