Coahuila rises to fourth in Mexico's competitiveness index
Coahuila has risen to fourth place in Mexico's 2026 State Competitiveness Index, according to data from the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO). The state climbed three positions from its seventh-place ranking the previous year, trailing only Mexico City, Querétaro, and Nuevo León.
The IMCO index evaluates 53 indicators across six sub-indices to measure a state's ability to attract and retain talent and investment. Coahuila's performance is supported by a strong industrial and export-oriented economy, particularly within the automotive sector, which has maintained a high proportion of GDP for two decades. Additionally, the state reports a labor informality rate of approximately 33 percent, significantly lower than the national average of 54.6 percent.
