Coahuila targets land speculation amid gas exploration plans

The Government of Coahuila is coordinating an operation with the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) to combat illegal land sales and speculation. This action follows the announcement of an energy exploration plan in the Sabinas-Burro-Picachos Basin by President Claudia Sheinbaum, aimed at advancing national energy independence.

Authorities have issued alerts regarding irregular land offers in the Central, Carbonífera, and Northern regions of the state. Secretary of Government Óscar Pimentel González stated that meetings with Profepa will focus on stopping clandestine land partitioning and providing legal certainty to landowners. Additionally, officials will evaluate extraction methods to minimize environmental impact, noting that the federal government is investigating less harmful fracturing techniques.
